Welcome family and friends.

Alexsys and Damian feel very fortunate that you have come, from near and far, to join in the celebration of their new life together.

Your presence is very important, because each of you has contributed something precious to their lives. Each of you are part of their own personal family: not only by relation. Because ultimately, friends are the family we choose.

Alexsys & Damian have known most of you for many years, or their entire lives. You’ve guided them, watched them grow up or have grown up with them. You went to school with them, or you worked with them. You are the ones who have supported them and known them so well. It is only fitting that you are here today to share this moment with them.

This is a very special day for me too, as I never thought I would have the opportunity to officiate at the marriage of my grandson and the woman of his dreams. And that is such an apt description. So, thank you Alexsys and Damian for giving me this wonderful part in YOUR day.

Damian is my grandson. My first grandson and little did I know the day he was born, that one day I’d be presiding over his wedding as he towered over me. I’ve watched him grow up through the years, mostly through visits and having the Vegas Most’s come for Christmas. I vividly recall 8-year-old Damian questioning, in-depth, my wife Jodi --incessantly -- at the kitchen counter about, “who would win in a battle between Jar-Jar Binx and Greedo” or any other number of alien match-ups -- as we whipped up breakfast for him. I’ve heard about his basketball exploits through grade school and in his high school years; and as he entered college, his dreams of becoming a Doctor of Physical Therapy. Most importantly, hearing about a remarkable young girl during those high school year--who is now standing, across from him today.

This amazing young lady, Alexsys, came into our lives a scant 5-years ago. And what a blessing that has been.

Now, I fancy myself as a person who has excellent instincts about people. And I do have to say, that the first time I met Alexsys, for whatever reason, rather than just politely extending my hand to shake hers, when we first were introduced, I was just compelled to wrap my arms around her and give her a big hug. In doing that, I knocked her sunglasses off, (which seems to have become one of my “signature moves “, and it still happens whenever we meet again.

Today begins, what Alexsys and Damian will always look back on, as the beginning of the next chapter of the wonderful story of their lives. And as we all know, every great story, like Alexsys’ and Damian’s, always begins with, “Once upon a time…”

It was the COVID years when everything was shut down, one of the first things that did open and allowed fate to bring these two together, was at a drive-in movie. A friend of Alexsys wanted to go and suggested inviting Damian.

Damian arrived in unforgettable style: A button-down shirt and Star Wars pants. But rather than watch the movie, Alexsys and Damian--“Chopped it up” as Damian refers to it. So much so, that when I first inquired, Alexsys couldn’t remember the movie or who was in it.

Over the next month, Alexsys would try to find, or even invent, ways to bump into Damian. There were many visits to the park, hoping Damian would be there playing basketball. Alexsys even admits to stalking him and making up “incidents” to get him to come to her rescue.

On one occasion, Alexsys was at the park. Ugh! No Damian. But not letting an opportunity pass, she concocted a story that involved being harassed by the entire 40-man squad of the Arbor View Football team. That was all Damian needed to know. He headed over to the park, a trail of smoke followed his footsteps, building his courage and might, to prepare the defend the honor of the fair Alexsys. He arrived, spitting nails and prepared to take no prisoners. But, as he surveyed the area, instead of 40 players in full pads and helmets—there was just one lone player in a t-shirt and shorts. He didn’t appear to be a much of a threat at all. And even Alexsys might admit that she wasn’t entirely sure the player was hassling her.

No matter. Damian’s place as a modern day “Knight in Shining Armor”, was secured.

Finally, their first official date occurred, at the Red Rock casino. They spent the day swimming with Alexsy’s family and some family friends. When everyone else decided it was time to leave, Alexsys and Damian stayed. Sue generously gave Alexsys some money in-case they were hungry. They went to the cafe in the casino and got a table for two and spent hours there, chatting and talking. Alexsys recalled that it was just great to spend time, in public, with just the two of them, even if her family paid for it.

Alexsys has many talents—one being, skateboarding, and that led her to teach Damian. She borrowed a skateboard from Cassidy and the lesson went pretty-well. Cassidy apparently was very clear about the need to bring her skateboard back, right after the lesson. Shortly after, Alexsys got a text from Cassidy, advising she needed her skateboard back—NOW.

When Alexsys and Damian arrived at her grandparent’s home, Cassidy --much like every little sister seems to do…needed a ride”. That led to a rather unique moment, certainly for Alexsys’ grandparents. Alexsys had a car accident. Now thankfully, everyone was fine—but that was more than can be said about her car—totaled.

Ahh, the moments that make up the stories of a relationship.

Many of you have seen their relationship grow: either in person, or via Social Media, from their early days at their two respective high schools, to their time at the University of Nevada where Alexsys graduated last year—early and with honors. And Damian will graduate, with honors also, next May.

For me, I’ve also witnessed their love. It is in the usual ways you might imagine from how they look at each other, holding hands, Damian letting Alexsys win at Putt-Putt golf, to their own secret language: sign language, which they both use to cheat while playing cards!

In preparing for the ceremonial part of this wedding celebration, I reflected on all I have observed and

what Alexsys and Damian have shared with me, on what it is, that you love about each other.

Damian

Alexsys loves you. And she thinks you are one of the most caring people in the world.

• How often you put the needs and feelings of others, above and before your own.

• How you ask her how you can lighten her load. Or

• If there is anything you could be doing better in your relationship, for her.

She especially admires how cute, funny, and hardworking you are: Never settling for what is required and always pushing to do better, and more.

Alexsys

Damian loves that there are so many things to love about you. Among them, is how selfless you are and how quickly you bond with people you meet. One example, is Damian’s is great grandmother Shirley, who refers to Alexsys, as “her treasure”. Damian loves how you are always so generous in letting someone else shine and how you constantly heap praise onto others. Most importantly, Damian sees you as HIS superpower! He believes you are the best and the best he could, and will, ever have.

Every day, you will make choices.

• You will choose whether to be kind and patient with one another.

• You will choose to communicate with one another.

• You will choose to listen to and hear one another.

• You will choose whether to find fault or to be forgiving.

It requires great trust and faith, to pledge oneself to another person. You will bear each other’s burdens,

as well as, share in each other’s joys.

Marriage is a sincere and mutual commitment: to love each other and work towards creating an atmosphere of care, consideration, and respect: All of which can make each day come alive.

It has been said that "Two hearts in love need no words." But nevertheless, we come now to those important that will carry you as husband and wife, into your new chapter.

Alexsys and Damian, this is your time: a very special time. Marriage is the clasping of hands,

the blending of hearts, and the union of two lives into one. For today, as the two of you pledge to love and care for one another in marriage, you are creating a spirit between yourselves, that will bind you closer than any spoken or written word.

Damian, please repeat after me: I choose you to be my wife. I do-- and I will share my life with yours and build our dreams together. Support you through times of trouble and rejoice with you in times of happiness. I promise to give you, love, and loyalty. This commitment is made in love, kept in faith, lived in hope, and made new, every day of our lives.

Alexsys, please repeat after me: I choose you to be my husband, I do-- and I will share my life with yours, and build our dreams together. And now the rings: Atreyu, may I have the rings please?

Rings are an ancient simple symbol: Round like the sun: like the eye; like arms that embrace. Circles. For love that is given, comes back around, again and again.

May these gifts, these symbols, remind you that your love, like the sun: illuminates. That your love, like the eye: must see clearly. And that your love, like arms that embrace, is a grace upon this world. As often as either of you look upon these rings, may you be reminded of this moment and the love that you have promised.

Everyone has advice for newlyweds. And I offer these good wishes to you, on your special day, from a very special place in my heart and for all those who are gathered here today.

• May your life together be overflowing with prosperity and good health.

• May you always share open and honest communications between each other.

• May you cherish the people in the family you have brought together.

• May all the years to come, be filled with moments of celebration and a daily renewal of your love.

• May your love be a life-long source of excitement, contentment, affection, and devotion to one another.

Before I formally and officially declare your marriage. I do have a very hope-filled prediction: …“And they lived, happily, ever after!”

And so now, by the power vested in me by the State of Nevada and The World Wide Web, it is my honor and delight, to declare you husband and wife. And with this declaration, You May Kiss The Bride!
