PROCESSIONAL (Come to Me by Goo Goo Dolls)
OPENING REMARKS
Hello and welcome. All of us gathered here today, family and friends of this wonderful couple, are fortunate to have been asked to witness the joining of Derek and Erin in blissful matrimony. They take this step not because they need to, but because they want to. They desire to publically pledge their love for each other, and commitment to each other.
Without context, marriage is just a word. It’s the love that you have for each other that gives the word its power. It’s the promises that you are about to make to each other that gives marriage its significance. It’s the unity of your bond that stands as a testament to the world, affirming that you, Derek and Erin share the deepest and most sacred love.
READINGS
At this time, Derek and Erin have asked me to share something with you from 1 Corinthians 13:4-8: Love is patient and kind. It does not envy or boast. It is not proud. Love does not dishonor others and is not self-seeking. It is not easily angered and keeps no record of wrongs. Love takes no pleasure in other people’s faults but delights in the truth. Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.
WEDDING MESSAGE
The two of you know quite well that life is difficult, and relationships are challenging…but as you travel through life together you’ll always have someone to share the good, bad and the ugly! But what I’d like you to do now, is reflect on the here and now…how you are feeling; what the air feels like on your skin; how the sun feels. Soak the day in and remember it…treasure it, so you can forever remember what this moment felt like.
You fell in love by chance, but you are here today because you are making a choice. You both are choosing each other. You’ve chosen to be with someone who makes you smile and makes every day brighter. As the years pass, no matter what may come, may you always be there for one another. May your love continue to deepen, as you respect and cherish one another.
RING EXCHANGE
Here we have the rings. The ring is an unbroken circle representing unending love. As often as either of you look upon these rings, may you be reminded of this moment and the love you have promised to one another.
Derek, please place this ring on Erin’s finger and repeat after me: I give you this ring as a symbol of my love (pause) and that I’m choosing to share my life’s journey with you (pause) today, tomorrow, and always.
Erin, please place this ring on Derek’s finger and repeat after me: I give you this ring as a symbol of my love (pause) and that I’m choosing to share my life’s journey with you (pause) today, tomorrow, and always (pause).
CLOSING REMARKS
Having just heard the wonderful vows you just made to each other, I want you to remember what you have promised each other, in not only words, but also with the actions that led up to this marriage. It’s clear that the words and actions that led you two to this moment were of love for each other and commitment to each other. Both of these will be tested as you navigate married life together. There will be great times, but there also will be not-so-great times, and it is during the not-so-great times that you need to remember this day, and all the wonderful reasons why you got married.
ANNOUNCEMENT OF MARRIAGE
It is my privilege and honor to pronounce you husband and wife.
KISS
You may now seal your vows and promises with a kiss!
