The Handfasting of Matthew Mcgowan & Jennifer Sieperda

Officiated by Phyllis Yvonne Alegria at Alegria Weddings in Granbury, Texas on February 11th, 2023.

ABOUT THIS WEDDING

"This was my 1st hand fasting wedding. I had never done or seen one before. The couple was very helpful by sending me a video to learn from. They also requested the history to be told at the ceremony while laying the cords and tying the knot. I did my research and practiced the tying the knot. Communication with the couple was great! The wedding was beautiful as well as the couple. The tying of the knot was successful! "

WELCOMING OF THE GUEST

Welcome friends and family, we have come here today to celebrate the wedding of Jennifer and Matthew. On behalf of the Bride and Groom, thank all of you for joining us. By your presence, you celebrate with them the love they have discovered in one another and you support their decision to commit themselves to a lifelong relationship.

Bless this beautiful couple with love and hope. Keep alive forever more the vows that they will pledge today. Bless their dreams and their visons and keep them always safe. And may peace and joy be with them on this day, their wedding day.

CEREMONY

How sweet to celebrate with the two of you the love you have found in one another. Your lives which began on separate paths will now be joined as one.

Please step forward. And take each other’s hands so that you may see the gift that they are to you.

These are the hands of your best friend, young and strong, and full of love for you on your wedding day, as you promise to love each other, today, tomorrow and forever.

CEREMONY THESE HANDS-

These are the hands that will passionately love and cherish you through the years, for a lifetime of happiness.

These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes, tears of sorrow and tears of joy.

These are the hands that will comfort you in illness and

hold onto you when fear or grief racks your mind.

These are the hands that will hold you tight as you struggle through difficult times.

These are the hands that will give you support and encourage you to chase your dreams. Together everything you wish for can be realized.

RING EXCAHNGE

Matthew; as you place this ring Jennifer’s finger, repeat after me:

This ring, a gift for you, symbolizes my desire, that you may be my wife from this day forward. As this ring has no end, neither shall my love for

you.

Jennifer; as you place this ring on Matthew’s finger; repeat after me:

This ring, a gift for you, symbolizes my desire that you may be my husband from this day forward. As this ring has no end, neither shall my love for you.

HANDFASTING:

Matthew and Jennifer have asked us to join them in a handfasting.

Handfasting is an ancient Celtic tradition that dates back to 7000 B.C. Traditionally, when two people were brought to be married, a cord or piece of material was used to bind the couple's hands together during the ceremony; symbolizing the binding of two people in love.

This is known as Tying the Knot! The cord will bind the Groom and Bride together with strong bonds of love as Husband and Wife.

I will now ask you to take your partner’s right hand. With each wrap of the cord you deepen your commitment to each other vowing to respect and support one another, to grow with each other, to offer compassion and understanding and to take each new challenge and adventure as it comes together, let this bond be strong and loving.

“I DO” vows

Matthew- do you take Jennifer to be your wife? Do you promise to love, honor, cherish and protect her, in all the days of your life?

(wait for the I do)

Jennifer- do you take Matthew to be your husband? Do you promise to love, honor, cherish and protect him, in all the days of your life?

(wait for the I do)

LAY THE CORDS

(lay Brides 1st)

This one represents the bride’s family welcoming you into theirs.

(lay grooms 2nd)

This one represents the groom’s family welcoming you into theirs.

(lay in middle of groom and bride 3rd)

This one will represent your new lives together as your own family.

NOW ITS TIME TO TYE THE KNOT!!!!!!!

CLOSING BLESSING

May love and laughter fill your heart and home all the days of your lives. May you face every challenge hand in hand- side by side knowing that with God’s grace you will conquer all obstacles together. May the world forever be a better place because the two of you fell in love.

By the power vested in me, by American Marriage Ministries and in the state of Texas I now pronounce you husband and wife, you may kiss your bride!
