Who gives Rebecca away?
Dear friends and family, with great affection for Regino and Rebecca we have gathered together to witness and bless their union in marriage. To this sacred moment they bring the fullness of their hearts to share with one another. They bring the dreams which bind them together in an eternal commitment. They bring their gifts and talents, their unique personalities and spirits, which they will unite together into one being as they build their life together. We celebrate with them for their union of hearts, built on friendship, respect, and love.
It is fitting, that we should on this occasion, begin by asking for God’s blessing on this marriage. Let us pray.
Heavenly Father, we gather to celebrate your gift of love. We rejoice that Regino and Rebecca have chosen to commit themselves to a life of loving faithfulness to one another. We praise you, Lord, for the ways you have touched our lives with loving relationships such as Regino and Rebecca's, and we give thanks for the special love and friendship you have put in their hearts. Renew within us an affectionate and loving spirit. May our participation in this celebration of love and commitment, give to us a new joy for the relationships that we cherish. Bless this union and ceremony In your loving arms, in Jesus's name we pray, Amen.
You may all be seated.
I charge you both, to remember that love and respect will serve as the foundations of a happy and enduring home. Hand in Hand you enter marriage, hand in hand you step out in faith. The hand you freely give to each other, is both the strongest and the most tender part of your body. In the years ahead you will need both strength and tenderness. Be firm in your commitment. Don't let your grip become weak. And yet, be flexible as you go through change. Don't let your hold become intolerable. Strength and tenderness, firm commitment and flexibility, of such is a marriage made, hand in hand:
Also remember that you don't walk this path alone. Don't be afraid to reach out to others when together you face difficulty. Other hands are there: friends, family, and the church. To accept an outreached hand is not an admission of failure, but an act of faith. For behind us, underneath us, around us all, are the outstretched arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It is into his hand, the hands of God, we commit this union of husband and wife.
Regino Quizon and Rebecca Graves will now share their vows.
Regino, will you have Rebecca to be your lawfully wedded (wife), to give her everything you are and everything you will ever be? To value her friendship beyond measure and to promise to share her dreams and help her achieve her goals? Will you never stand behind her or in front of her but always beside her? To listen to her with an open heart and an open mind pledging your honesty, compassion, fidelity and forgiveness? Will you promise to love her no matter what tomorrow brings? To always be her most loyal friend and her loving husband now and forever?"
Regino - Answer: I will
Rebecca, will you have Regino to be your lawfully wedded (husband), to give to him everything you are and everything you will ever be? Rebecca - Answer: I will
Regino Quizon and Rebecca Graves will now exchange rings as a symbol of their love and commitment.
The wedding ring is a symbol of eternity. It is an outward sign of an inward and spiritual bond which unites two hearts in endless love. It is a circle; it has neither beginning nor ending; forever you are to keep this vow, and the sign of your vow will be this ring. As a ceaseless reminder of this sacred commitment,
And now as a token of your love, you Regino, may place a ring on the finger of your bride and repeat after me:
I, Regino, take thee, Rebecca, to be my wedded wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse: for richer, for poorer; in sickness and in health; to love and to cherish, till death do us part, according to God's holy law; This is my solemn vow.
By the same token Rebecca, you may place a ring on the finger of your groom and repeat after me:
I, Rebecca, take thee, Regino, to be my wedded husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse: for richer, for poorer; in sickness and in health; to love and to cherish, till death do us part, according to God's holy law; This is my solemn vow.
Today, Regino and Rebecca are going to symbolically seal their commitment by braiding together The Cord of Three Strands. It symbolizes the joining of one man, one woman, and God into a marriage relationship. Marriage takes three: Both of you and God. It is God who teaches us to love. By keeping Him at the center of your marriage, His love will continue to bind you together as one throughout your life.
Displayed are three cords the Bride and Groom are braiding together. The Middle strand represents God. The covenant of marriage is initiated by Him.
Your marriage will be built under His authority, and is intended to glorify Him.
The Right strand represents the Groom. As the husband loves his wife and submits himself to the Lord, the Lord in tum will demonstrate His great love in the marriage relationship. The Left strand represents the Bride. As the wife honors her husband and submits herself to the Lord, the Lord in turn will nurture and strengthen the marriage relationship.
Regino and Rebecca have given themselves to each other by the promises they have exchanged today. By the authority vested in me by the State of Florida, and the spiritual authority entrusted to me by God as His minister, I now pronounce you (husband and wife)!
