Invocation

We are gathered here today to celebrate with (groom name) and (bride name) as they proclaim their love and commitment to the world. We are gathered to rejoice, with and for them, in the new life they now undertake together. What greater thing for two persons than to feel they are joined together, to strengthen each other in labor, to rest on each other in sorrow, to help each other in need, to share joy, and to be one with each other – Whatever life has to offer. This is a special time of celebration that they will long remember, and because of this, they are thankful you are here today to share in their joy.

(to the couple)

(groom name) and (bride name) today begins a life of giving and sharing, nurturing and support, allowing each other the freedom to change and grow as individuals while developing your mutual spirit as time goes by. In the art of marriage, the little things are the big things. It is about establishing a relationship in which the independence is equal, dependence is mutual, and the obligation is reciprocal.

Today, your family and friends are gathered together to celebrate your union. We are privileged to witness two very clear friends, two exceptional and driven individuals committed to sharing a lifetime together. To me, it is best described in the words of a little known song I love so much titled ‘Boxes’ To paraphrase the song:

Goo Goo Dolls “Boxes”

I need a family to drive me crazy

Call me out when I'm low and lazy

It won't be perfect, but we'll be fine

Cause I've got your back, and you've got mine

We'll have tiny boxes for memories

Open them up and we'll set them free

There'll be bad days and some hard times

But I'll keep your secrets, if you keep mine

When the answers escape us when we start to fade

Remember who loved you and the ones who have stayed

Cause my body will fail, but my soul will go on

So don't you get lonely

I'm right where you are

You are the memory that won't ever lapse

When twenty five years have suddenly passed

Wherever you take me, it's clear I will go

Your love's the one love that I need to know

You are the sun in the desolate sky

And your life's in these words and it can't be denied

Wherever you take me, it's clear I will go

Your love's the one love that I need to know

Declaration of Intent

(groom name) and (bride name), the relationship you enter into today must stand by the strength of your love and the power of faith in each other. To make your relationship succeed it will take unending love. It will take trust, to know in your hearts that you truly want what is best for one another and to learn and grow together. It will take faith, to go forward together without knowing exactly what the future brings. If you both come freely, and understand the responsibility and work involved to make your relationship thrive and are committed to not only each other but your family, please take each other by the hands and reply "we do".... they replied, "we do".

You are about to make your promises to one another. You will find that as you live by these vows over the years, investing your time, love, and your commitment to one another, the happy times of your life will be twice as joyous because you’ll share these joys in marriage.

Vow Exchange

(groom name), repeat after me... (bride name), you are my best friend and everlasting companion. You have brought me the truest happiness I have ever known. I take joy today in committing my life to yours.

(groom name) will you take (bride name) whose hand you hold, choosing him/her alone to be your lawfully wedded wife/husband? Will you live with her/him in the state of true matrimony? Will you love her/him and comfort her/him through good time and bad, sickness and in health, honoring her/him at all times and being faithful to her/him?

Bible Verse

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails…” 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8

The Beatles

I’ve always preferred the immortal words of the Apostle John, the Apostle Paul, the Apostle George, and the Apostle Ringo when they proclaimed in one voice “All you need is love, all you need is love, all you need is love, love, love is all you need!”

The Rings

The ring, an unbroken circle, represents unending love. As often as either of you look upon these rings, may you be reminded of this moment and the love you have promised to one another.

(groom name), please place the ring on (bride name) finger and repeat after me

I give you this ring as a symbol of my love, and that I am choosing to share my life’s journey with you. I give you this ring, with the pledge to love you today, tomorrow, always, and forever.

(bride name), please place the ring on (groom name) finger and repeat after me

I give you this ring as a symbol of my love, and that I am choosing to share my life’s journey with you. I give you this ring, with the pledge to love you today, tomorrow, always, and forever.

(groom name) and (bride name), I want to wish you both much love and happiness as you begin your new journey. Remember to keep lots of laughter in your life and love will never be far behind.

Blessing

Prior to this moment, you each walked a separate road. Now you shall embark together on a shared path. The journey is yours alone. It is the strength of your love that shall nourish you together as a couple.

You have stood before these witnesses and declared your intent to commit your lives in marriage. You have made these promises to each other. Your road to this moment has not always been smooth, but you continued to fight for one another. I hope you will never forget the fight and perseverance it has taken to get to this moment. And I hope you will never forget the love and joy you feel today, because these are the values that will keep your marriage, family and bond to one another strong.

I leave you now with the following words. May all that you are always be in love. May all that is love always be in you. May your love be as beautiful on each day you share as it is on this day of celebration and may each day you share be as precious to you as the day you first fell in love. May you always see and encourage the best in each other. May the challenges life brings your way make your marriage even stronger, and may you always be each other’s best friend and greatest love.

Pronouncement

(groom name) and (bride name), you have pledged your faith to each other in the company of friends and family. So by the power vested in me by the State of Texas, I now pronounce you husband and wife...(groom name), you may kiss your bride.

Ladies and gentlemen, I am proud to present for the first time (couple’s name)
