Officiated by Lorianne F. Harrison-Reyes at beautiful backyard & home of Micky & Cindy Filson's 2119 253rd Place, Lomita, CA 90717 in Lomita, California on October 16th, 2021. Witnessed by Micky Filson and Sandra Loera.
"The day was Oct. 16, 2021. It was a small, backyard wedding filled with love, family, custom sneakers, custom UCLA hats, and many memories that make me smile a week later as I write this wedding experience. I feel like family with the Melgoza's and the Irvin's. The wedding was held in the Groom's brothers backyard who took months to make it special and so green for them. The bride and groom afforded my husband and I the opportunity to bring our dogs who love the day, LOVED the grass, and followed the bride around with her wedding train. I feel the need to share, Officiating for Elmira and Dan's wedding was an amazing and humbling experience. Dan worked for me six month after coming to CA and Elmira worked for Resident Services almost six month later. They were friends who have become now Mr. and Mrs. Irvin. It was a JOYOUS and BEAUTIFUL DAY filled with love and family. Everyone present has been quarantined for health reasons, including the groom. This was my first event in two years since I had three major surgeries. There were 15 people present for this amazing event which was 18 years in the making. They day was filled with SMILE, SUNSHINE and SO MUCH LOVE! I was happy, excited, elated, humbled, over joyed and nervous at the same time. The ceremony was planned with the bride and groom. My husband read the poem/prayer "HANDS". The day was filled with tears of JOY and so much LOVE. It was an amazing and joyous backyard wedding hosted by Dan's brother. I loved how Dan and Elmira looked into one another eyes and held hands as my husband read HANDS. It was my favorite part of the ceremony. Being the officiant for those you care about and consider you family is an amazing experience. I am filled with gratitude they invited me to officiate and worked with me in partnership to plan the ceremony. They gave me inspiration, input, and ideas. They were mindful of what they wanted to say to one another, include and how to be respectful of the family. One surprise and I will try to get the pictures to share, Elmira wore sneakers. One sneaker was her sneaker with the girl smurf, Sacred Heart Chaple at LMU, the LMU logo for her graduate degree, and everything about her. The other was Dan's sneaker representing Dan with the Stealers, football, Papa Smurf and all Dan loved. They were custom made for the wedding day and for the special couple. Dan and Elmira are such an amazing and caring couple. I shared with Dan and Elmira, my dad always shared my wedding would be in our backyard then we all moved so he joked how LMU was our backyard which was Sacred Heart Chapel. Alan and I shared our wedding day with the Irvins and it was a warm hearted, loving wedding that we shared for their loving day on Oct. 16th. It was the love of my life and by the grace of God, I had the strength to be for their union. Please pray for Dan so he may have a liver transplant and they may live their many more years together filled with love, laughter and lots of joy!!! May they continue to grow in love and laughter. May they be able to have an amazing honeymoon after Dan recovers from his transplant. I pray for them every day. I pray God gives them many more days together filled with love, friendship and laughter."
Dearly Beloved and Honored Guests,
We are gathered together here to join Elmira Melgoza and Dan Irvin in the spiritual
union of marriage. I was given permission to say what we are all thinking: FINALLY.
Elmira and Dan enter into this spiritual union thoughtfully, lovingly and seriously, and
with a deep realization of its obligations and responsibilities to love, honor and cherish
in sickness AND in health. They understand and we all should remember that the
foundations for a happy and enduring home is filling it with love, loyalty, respect and
understanding. Their relationship began as a friendship which turned into a
sustaining, resilient, respectful and loving relationship.
It has been my humble honor and pleasure to have KNOW DAN and ELMIRA individually, as FRIENDS and as an amazing, loving couple. Friendship, honesty, love, loyalty, lots of laughter, banter, love of ALL SPORTS and most importantly the UNCONDITIONAL LOVE of one another. This growth from FRIENDS to TRUE LOVE! I remember when Elmira and Dan were walking out of the building one day together and Dan offered Elmira a ride on his cart to her car. Dan had his BIG DAN GRIN on his FACE. Always the gentleman and eager to get home to his garage to tinker and work on something then there was Elmira, who was smiling and laughing. A new professional at the time, who was independent, caring and eager to learn new things.
She was the one who loved to go home to her family and friends. It was so nice to see them so happy, together. The next day, I asked Elmira, are you and Dan dating. She said NO No Noooooo, with a look of I HOPE SOON Dan will see how much I like him. I did not ask any more questions. Which was hard for me.....they know it. The Next thing I knew love was in the air and Dan and Elmira were moving into together to begin to "build" a life together. And I intentionally use the word BUILD, Dan left his garage begin build a happy, healthy relationship with Elmira and their growing family with dogs, neices, nephews and lots of love.
There is a passage from a children’s book called The Love Monkey by Edward Monkton
that Dan and Elmira wanted to share with everyone today. This passage captures how
their relationship evolved from co-workers, to friends, to being a couple, to where we
are today and where they will remain moving forward.
“Then they looked into each other’s eyes and, feeling the joy of truth in their souls for the first time, they began to laugh. And often they sit together still, holding each other’s hearts in their warm hands, lifting them to the light and laughing. Always laughing.”
Even with the recent challenges that they have faced, they have faced them together and have found a way to keep laughing. With the love and support of all of you, and those that were not able to join us today, they know that this will pass and Dan will get better.
I have asked my husband, Alan Reyes, to read a poem called the BLESSING OF THE
HAND chosen by Elmira and Dan to share with you.
I ask DAN AND ELMIRA TO LOOK INTO EACHOTHERS EYES and HOLD ONE ANOTHERS HANDS WHILE ALAN READS THIS TO THEM and ALL OF US.......
Blessing of the Hand
By Unknown
These are the hands of your partner, young and strong and full of love, holding your hands as you promise to love each other today, tomorrow, and forever.
These are the hands that will work alongside yours as together you build your future.
These are the hands that will hold you and comfort you in grief and uncertainty.
These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes, tears of sorrow and joy.
These are the hands that will hold your family as one.
These are the hands that will give you strength.
And these are the hands that even when wrinkled and aged, will still be reaching for yours, still giving you the same unspoken tenderness with just a touch.
