Good afternoon Fidel and Adaline!
Introduction
Good afternoon all. We are gathered here to unite and in taking place, we do not create this marriage for the great spirit has already brought these two souls together.
We can and do, however, celebrate with Fidel and Adaline this wonderful and joyous occasion that has already taken place in their lives and in their hearts.
Let us pray to the spirits above:
We honor all that has been created.
Fidel and Adaline pledge their hearts and their lives here today, together.
We honor Mother Earth and ask for their marriage to be abundant and grow stronger with each passing season.
We honor Fire and ask their union to be warm and glowing with love in their hearts.
We honor Wind and ask that they sail through life safe and calm as in our Father’s arms.
We honor Water to clean and soothe their marriage that it may never thirst for love with all the forces of the universe You created.
We pray for harmony and true happiness as they forever grow young together, their marriage is a supreme sharing of experience and advantage in the most intimate of human relationships.
Today Fidel and Adaline proclaim their love and commitment to the world.
We, their family and friends, come together as one heart and one spirit to join these two people as one.
You are a part of each other’s lives now. You are one. The true art of married life is in the inner spiritual journey, it is a mutual enrichment of two souls that travel now as one.
(Have them go inside the circle)
(Have someone place the blanket around them)
(Give him the axe and her the pipe)
In an Indian marriage, the Indian man can never divorce an Indian woman. The woman is the only one who can divorce him. This is the reason we put the blanket on them to make them as one. If the woman wants to divorce him, it is called the splitting of the blanket. She will give him his weapon, food, clothes, and tools. She would put him outside the door, close it, and that is it.
That is not what we are here for now. Remember, we are here to bless their union.
Fidel and Adaline, I will ask you only once. Did you come to this decision of your own free will? Are you sure?
Fire lit (smudge stick and use feather to spread the smoke)
The human soul shared characteristics with all things divine. It is this belief which assigned virtue to the cardinal directions; East, South, West, and North. A blessing is offered in support of this ceremony.
Blessed be this union with the gifts of the EAST. (eating of bread)
Communication of the heart, mind and body. Fresh of growth, found in the sharing of silence.
Blessed be this union with the gift of the SOUTH. (lighting of the unity candle)
Warmth of hearth and home. The heat of the heart's passion. The light created by both to lighten the darkest times.
Blessed be this union with the gift of the WEST. (pouring of water in the glasses and drinking them after washing their hands with the water in the bowl)
The deep commitment of the lake. The swift excitement of the river. The refreshing cleansing of the rain. The all encompassing passion of the sea.
Blessed be this union with the gift of the NORTH. (planting of small plant)
A firm foundation of which to build. Fertility of the fields to enrich your lives. A stable home to which you always return. (give wipes to clean their hands
Each of these blessings from the four cardinal directions emphasizes those things, which will help you build a happy and successful union.
Tools which you must use together, in order to create what you seek in this marriage.
Exchange of Rings and Vows
May I have the rings
The circle is a symbol of the Sun and the Earth in the universe. It is the symbol of wholeness perfection in your union. These rings are also a symbol of your unity of your two lives that are now joined as the unbroken circle. In this very special moment we pause to give thanks for all the rich experience of life that has brought Fidel and Adaline to this high spiritual point in their lives.
Repeat after me:
We will treat the Earth and all that dwell thereon with respect.
We will remain close to the Great Spirit.
We will show great respect for our fellow beings.
We will work together for the benefit of all Mankind.
We will give assistance and kindness wherever needed.
We will do what we know to be right.
We will look after the well being of mind and body.
We will dedicate a share of our efforts to the greater good.
We will be truthful and honest at all times.
We will take full responsibility for our actions.
With the repeating of these commandments, do you pledge your commitment to each other?
We do.
SAND CEREMONY
We are grateful that within them as a great dream of love and the resources to use that love freely, use the love which has flowed into them through those that love them and have nurtured them and pointed them along life’s path. The heritage and spiritual awareness each brings to this commitment will continue to be an important element in their lives but now shared between them as these two separate containers of sand represents.
Your lives, as this element of sand represents which is individual and unique. When you combine your sand together, your individual lives are now your combined containers of sand and now joined forever. Fidel, please pick up your container of sand that represents your life’s path. Adaline, please pick up your container of sand that represents your life’s path. Now please pour both sands into one container. You are now blending the sand together, symbolizing the unity of one. Just as the grains of sand can never be separated into the individual containers, your lives are now forever blended.
Let us pray:
God in Heaven above, please protect the ones we love. We honor all you created as Fidel and Adaline pledge their hearts and lives together. We honor Mother Earth and ask for their marriage to be abundant and grow stronger through the seasons. We honor Fire and ask that their union be warm and glowing with love in their hearts. We honor Wind and ask that they sail through life safe and calm as in our Fathers’ arms. We honor Water to clean and soothe their relationship-that it may never thirst for love. With all the forces of the universe you created, we pray for harmony as they grow forever young together. Amen
Angel will put the Indian vest on Fidel to represent welcoming him to the family.
Thank you family and friends for being here to witness the union of Fidel and Adaline.
Fidel and Adaline, live for your love and your love will live forever. May all the beautiful gifts that come with the promises of a long loving marriage bring never-ending happiness to you both. I now pronounce you a loving, caring couple in love as Husband and Wife. You may kiss your bride.
