Let’s do this!!

3. THE OFFICIANT’S SPEECH
“Dearly beloved” ... (I always wanted to say this LOL)
What makes today so important in the life of this couple? It’s the promises they are making to always be there for each other in front of their closest friends, family and God.
The most remarkable moment in life is when you meet the person who makes you feel complete. The person who makes the world a beautiful and magical place. The person with whom you share a bond so special that it transcends normal relationships and becomes something so pure and so wonderful, that you can’t imagine spending another day of your life without them.
Kaitlin wanted me to share with you the love story of her great grandmother and her husband and how that drives her to achieve that level of love and commitment with Colton.
Great grandma Therese, met the love of her life, Great grandpa Don when they were very young, They were made one for each other, they were madly in love, and one happy day they finally decided to tie the knot and Great Grandpa Don gave Therese the ring that today is on Kaitlin’s finger. Don had to go overseas to fight for our Country in the Korean War.
Unfortunately, Don never made it back home. Therese never remarried, no matter what, she remained committed to Don until the end. Katlin’s Grandma Carol saved the ring for posterity and was saving it to continue the family legacy. When Therese met Colton, it was like magic! She knew that Colton was the one for her beloved Kaitlin! She even started hitting on him!!! (and Kaitlin was like ...; Great grandma!! What the heck???)
Therese once said there was something she saw in Colton that reminded her of Don
Long story short, when Colton decided to propose, he got the ring from grandma Carol and after proposing in Marshall, -at the lake, when they were fishing- Kaitlin is wearing great grandma’s Therese ring on her finger, perpetuating the love story that started more than 70 years ago.
Now, Kaitlin and Colton have asked me that I keep this speech short, classy, and family-friendly, and politely asked me to leave out stories that are unflattering to either of them. So, I’ve had to redline stories about previous flings, drugs or alcohol encounters with the police, but I do feel comfortable saying, “I told you so.” This is exactly what I said when I learned that Kaitlin and Colton’s relationship was becoming truly serious.
As a third-party spectator to their developing love, it was extremely clear that the two of them represent a perfect pairing because each of them complements the other so well. They balance one another, and while each of them is a tremendous individual on their own, together they are powerful. And being better together, as a team, a unit, and partners in crime, is what has been many years in the making and ultimately leads us to be here today, witnessing their commitment to one another in front of those they love most.
I wish I could tell you a single story about Kaitlin and Colton that summarizes their relationship and how they enrich each other’s lives, and the lives of each of us, but the truth is there isn’t one single event that is a good encapsulation of what they mean to me, to each other and all of us. But what I do know is that both of them care deeply and passionately for each other; they protect each other; they make each other laugh and think outside themselves; that time magically seems to both fly and slow down when they’re together.
They help each other in ways that are obvious and unnoticed but always appreciated. As Kaitlin says: “No matter what, Colton will be there for me” and Colton... Well... You know Colton, -He is a man of few words-, but his eyes shine when you ask him about Kaitlin.
As a request from Kaitlin and Colton, I would like to read a passage from Ecclesiastes 4:
While they braid the cord of 3 strands, one cord represents Kaitlin, the second cord Colton and the third cord represents the Lord
“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves” ...
A cord of three strands is not easily broken...
This passage resonates to Kaitlin and Colton and represents the devotion to each other and to their beliefs about their relationship.
I also know that it’s not just anyone with whom you can have communication with simply a look, or share a time going hunting or fishing, -even when one of them never done that before, or getting a HUGE carp during her first time ever bowfishing (Beginners Luck, right?) or say “I’m sorry” every time it’s warranted (...eventually). They do that for and with each other.
But it’s also my personal experiences with Kaitlin and Colton that highlight the quality of their love. And what I wish for them on their wedding day is that their life together as a team is one of complete contentment; full of those moments that they wish would never end, and that they continue to make one another smile and laugh as they make each of us do.
“If anyone knows of any legal reason why these two may not be married today, please speak now.” Or forever hold your peace.
Going once...going twice... Time’s up LOL! Pheew!!!
4. THE EXCHANGE OF VOWS
Now, these two have each prepared their vows that they will read them now. (I’m holding the mic while you both read your vows)
Colton and Kaitlin exchange vows
5. THE EXCHANGE OF RINGS
Now Kaitlin and Colton will exchange rings as a symbol of love and commitment to each other. Rings are a precious metal; they are also made precious by you wearing them.
Your wedding rings are special; they enhance who you are. They mark the beginning of your long journey together. Your wedding ring is a circle, a symbol of love never-ending. It is the seal of the vows you have just taken to love each other without end.
Colton, please place the ring on Kaitlin’s left hand and repeat after me:
Kaitlin, I give you this ring as a symbol of my love. As it encircles your finger, may it remind you always that you are surrounded by my enduring love. Will you accept this ring?
Kaitlin answers.
Now, Kaitlin, please place the ring on Colton’s left finger and repeat after me:
"Because this ring has no end or beginning, it signifies the continuation of true love. As I place it on your finger, I give you all that I am and ever hope to be. “Will you take this ring?
