Good evening and welcome!
Please have a seat.
Mikiela and Jimmy are so
glad to have you here,
and I am happy to be here
with you on this beautiful
fall day to unite
these two people. This is their
celebration of love, of friendship,
of family, and of commitment.
A celebration of two people
who are saying, “We’re doing
this for keeps."
Declaration of Intent
So we’ve gathered here
to witness one of life’s
greatest moments,
the joining of two hearts.
I’m a big fan of love and
marriage. My husband and
I have been married for 47
years, and he is so
charmingly romantic about
marriage, that he has rubbed
off on me.
I always think there’s something
wonderful about two people
discovering that they are meant
to be and making that decision
to join hands in love
and go through life together.
So today is all about that
special love.
Mikiela and Jimmy, you know you
don't have to have a ceremony
to have a marriage.
And when you think about it,
the whole thing is a little
awkward, right?
You're standing up here,
looking all fancy, holding flowers,
and being stared at
by pretty much everyone
who has meant something
to you in the past twenty-some
years.
So why are you doing this?
You two have already been
together for quite a while.
This day won’t make you
a family. You’re already
a family.
You’ve already taken
that leap of faith and are
building your life together.
Yet, here you are.
Because . . . although we have
hundreds of important moments
in our lives, this one is regarded
as so important, we want to
share it with our families and
friends.
Why? Why this moment?
Because despite all of our
differences, love is what
we all share.
It's the great unifier:
our one universal truth.
That no matter who we are,
where we've come from,
what we believe,
we know this one thing:
love is what we're doing right.
That's why
you both are standing here.
That's why all of you
are here to witness.
Because in this moment,
we are reminded that the
ability to love is that
very best part of our humanity.
So, now here we go.
Are you ready?
