Would you let an Artificial Intelligence write your wedding ceremony?

Would you let an Artificial Intelligence algorithm write your wedding script? And to the wedding officiants reading this -- how much would you charge a soon-to-be-married couple for a script written with the help of a digital sidekick? 

 

This question isn’t far-fetched, considering that we recently read an entire article written by an AI language generator called GPT-3. With only a little bit of prompting from its human interviewer, GPT-3 created entire paragraphs of conversational, informative, accurate, and grammatically correct dialogue. That’s no easy feat, even for some humans! In fact, it’s so expressive that you’d never know it was written by an algorithm unless someone told you.

 

And GPT-3 isn’t alone... AI software is already widely used to generate marketing copy, web content, and even computer code. AI is popping up everywhere, including the wedding industry!  Alexa & Siri were married in an adorable LGBTQ+ destination wedding in Vienna two years ago this month (happy anniversary, you two!), and a Japanese man married an AI named Miku in a 40-guest ceremony just last year. 

 

So if you’re anything like us, you’re probably wondering about the custom wedding vows, toasts, and love stories that an Artificial Intelligence might write with a little coaxing… 

 

Do algorithms understand love? Can computer programs wax poetic about meet-cutes and companionship?

 

And if they can… How much would they charge for a summer elopement ceremony?
