What are American Marriage Ministries Beliefs?
As outlined in our Theological Doctrine, AMM is built on the belief that all people, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, or socioeconomic status, have the right to contract marriage, that all people have the right to administer the marriage contract, and that it is the right of every couple to choose who will officiate their marriage.
The simplified version of our Theological Doctrine is articulated in our three Tenets:
- All people, regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation, have the right to marry.
- It is the right of every couple to choose who will solemnize their marriage.
- All people have the right to solemnize marriage.
The beliefs of American Marriage Ministries are intended to be universal and inclusive. Our Church is based on seeing past differences, past tribal and cutural boundaries, past sexual orientation, to the commonalities that we all share. Our Tenets represent values and a world-view that all people can share, whether they are Christian, Muslim, Atheist, Agnostic, or even Pagan.
Marriage is about bringing two individuals together under one roof. We are each unique and hold our own values. And when we get married we do not abandon those values, we do not abandon who we are. Instead we commit to working with and having compassion for a person whose values are often different from our own but which enriches us because of those differences.
Marriage is one of the few institutions that can unite individuals, families, and communities who would otherwise not associate with each other. Looking past our differences to find commonalities and have empathy for each may be one of the most difficult challenges we face as human beings. Marriage and the Wedding Celebration is one of the few cultural doors that gives permission for us to be more compassionate.
American Marriage Ministries Beliefs, our Church, are an extension of these values. Our ministers come from all walks of life. Our church is not about subscribing to an exclusionary tribal litmus test but about celebrating our differences while recognizing that we are all human beings. We are all children of the same Universe.
