Invocation

David:

Welcome family and friends.

We are gathered together on this beautiful afternoon

on Friday May 3rd, two thousand and thirteen

to unite Margaret Sharon Lockhart

and Derek Walter Sebastian Shore in marriage.

Who presents this woman to be married to this man?

Papa and Mama Lockhart: We do.

David:

Please take your seats.

(To everyone)

I am here as Derek’s best friend

and a dear friend to Maggie.

I played the yenta at the start

and now I stand before this couple to marry them.

(To everyone)

This Contract should be entered into thoughtfully and seriously with a deep realization of its obligations and responsibilities, while remembering that love, understanding, acceptance, faith and humor are the foundations of a happy and enduring home.

(To D & M)

Derek and Maggie, you stand before me

having requested that I, David Edward Socha,

marry you under the presence of G-d.

Do you both do this of your own free will,

with no pressure upon you from other persons?

If so answer “we do”.

Derek and Maggie: We do.

David: (To everyone)

As the curtain is set to go up on this cast of characters,

I remind us all that we each have a part to play,

a role with or without lines,

in the lives of the young couple before us.

They have come to this day

full of their own experiences and dreams.

They each have a back story

as well as ideas for what comes next.

While we may offer suggestions on staging,

give them props or provide them with critiques,

it will be up to the two of them

to choreograph their new life together.

David: (to Derek)

Derek, do you take Maggie, to be your lawfully wedded wife,

to have and to hold from this day forward,

for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer,

in sickness and in health,

to love and to cherish for long as you both shall live?

If so answer, I do.

Derek: I do.

David: (to Maggie)

Maggie, do you take Derek, to be your lawfully wedded husband,

to have and to hold from this day forward,

for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer,

in sickness and in health,

to love and to cherish for long as you both shall live?

If so answer, I do.

Maggie: I do.

David: (to Derek and Maggie)

I invite you now to face one another and join hands

as you read your vows.

(Maggie gives flowers to Laura. Derek and Maggie turn to one another and grabs hands.) Vows Exchange

David:

(to audience)

Derek and Maggie have prepared their own vows.

(to Derek) Derek please repeat after me:

(to Maggie) Maggie, please repeat after me:

Ring Exchange

David: (To Derek and Maggie)

It is now time for you to exchange the rings.

These symbols represent

not only the joining of each of you with the other,

but also the joining of your families and friends.

(rings go down the line)

In honor of this, your Bridesmaids and Groomsmen

are passing the rings along,

infusing them with their blessing and good wishes for you. These rings represent your love for each other,

the promises you have made today

and the lifelong bond you are creating together.

May these blessings and good wishes

fortify the bond you share,

and stay with you through all of life’s adventures to come.

Derek, Do you have the ring for Maggie?

Derek: Yes

David:

Repeat after me

Maggie, I give you this ring

as a symbol of my love for you,

of my steadfastness

and joy in loving you

and as a pledge to honor you

with all that I am

and all I shall become

(Derek puts ring on Maggie’s finger)

David: Maggie, Do you have the ring for Derek?

Maggie: Yes

David:

Repeat after me

Derek, I give you this ring

as a symbol of my love for you,

of my steadfastness

and joy in loving you

and as a pledge to honor you

with all that I am

and all I shall become

David:

(to ALL)

With these rings,

may Derek and Maggie be reminded

of the love that encircles them

and of their own unending faithfulness to each other,

that in all their time together

they may know joy and peace and truth in one another.

Pronouncement

David: (to Derek and Maggie)

Derek and Maggie, you have committed yourselves

to each other before your family, your friends

and in the presence of G-d.

May you always have enough happiness to keep you sweet; enough trials to keep you strong;

enough success to keep you eager;

enough faith to give you courage;

and enough determination to make each day a good day.

May your dreams and highest aspirations

come to fruition in your actions.

May your talk be your walk,

and may your breath of spirit and life be visible to others.

There will be hard times, there will be fights,

there will be struggles and you will have your issues.

But remember; there’s always the plan.

To the plan.

With the blessings of all those assembled,

And by the power vested in me by American Marriage Ministries and the state of Maryland;

I now pronounce you husband and wife.

You may now kiss the bride.

(to ALL)

Family and friends, I present to you Mr and Mrs Derek Shore!
