Greeting

I wanted to welcome everyone today, to share with Anthony and Michelle, a very special day in their lives. They have chosen all of you to be here with them to celebrate their union. This is a celebration of love, of commitment, of friendship, of family, and of the two people who are in it for, forever.

The giving in marriage

Marriage in, and of itself is a blessing, but blessed is the couple who comes to the marriage altar with the approval and love of their families and friends. Greg Do I have your blessing for this marriage? (Shake of head yes or I agree?)

An opening of Marriage

Sweet that is wonderful.

Anthony and Michelle’s relationship began with a chance meeting at Avalon Run playing Mario Kart. Their love continued to grow, and grow, every day, until their understanding and loving for each other got to a point where they decided to live their lives together as husband and wife.

I asked Anthony and Michelle when we met what makes a loving marriage. They said together, “A loving marriage “is always having someone to bother and to be with you, and to share everything in your life and to always be vulnerable.” When I heard this definition of a loving marriage from the couple it struck me as wise, well thought out, and grounded in the ceremony of marriage. I was so excited that they have thought about the meaning behind what marriage is and how in this ceremonious bringing together of two people into making them one changes their lives forever. I now want to share with you a deeper understanding of marriage that will fit within Anthony and Michelle’s lives.

Definition of marriage

The 6 Marriage meanings are being in agreement, letting go of your sel-fish-ness, becoming one, changing, learning, and growing with each other.

There is a saying that says ‘how can two people go on a journey together unless they have agreed to do so?’

As we move forward the couple must declare their intent in marriage. So I must ask Anthony and Michelle to agree on their marriage.

Anthony, do you take Michelle to be your lawfully wedded wife. Do you promise to love, honor, cherish, and protect her, forsaking all others and holding unto her in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer for as long as you both shall live? If so, say I do.

Michelle, do you take Anthony to be your lawfully wedded husband do you promise to love, honor, cherish, and protect him, forsaking all others and holding unto him in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer for as long as you both shall live? If so, say I do.______:

One of the reasons I was so excited when Anthony asked me to officiate his and

Michelle’s wedding, in a bathroom in Atlantic City… is because when I see them together, I can see them display these 6 characteristics of marriage, and I know that they come to this marriage with a strong foundation. Their self-less-ness is perfectly illustrated by their first date… Anthony explained to me about how nervous he was leading up to the date and saving money, because it was New York City after all. They had great conversations leading up to it, which helped ease his nerves, and keep the mood. In the end, to Anthony’s surprise, Michelle was even cooler then he could have dreamed and recommended staying home, cooking dinner, and watching fireworks from her apartment. Obviously, it was a successful first date.

Becoming one allows for profound bonds. These bonds reach way beyond the physical though. As I found out through meeting with the couple, each person had a different take on the other. Michelle thought back to seeing Anthony for the first time and she thought, “too tall.” And Anthony thought back to the first time they met and he thought, “too stuck up.” But as they grew they didn’t even notice these things anymore and moved past them as they made a connection on the emotional, psychological and spiritual level. They were touched by their differences. Remember now that becoming one does not mean that you lose your own identity. It only means that completing and com-ple-menting one another to such an extent that you can both become better together than you could have been as apart as individuals.

Change is one of the most certain things about life, including marriage. Change is also a sign that something is alive as only inanimate objects never change. So enjoy all the changing seasons of your marriage, from your planned honeymoon in Copenhagen, Brussels, and Amsterdam. Your first year anniversary. When you buy your dream home the one with the, pizza oven, wrap around porch and swing for 2 children. When your 2 children grow up and move out of the house, and go to Princeton of course not some other small school right around the corner {PAUSE}... And then when you are finally are retired when you travel to and from Italy as you please. I know that the two of you will make this happen. Because the both of you love making changes to ensure that your life goals are hit. And I cannot wait to visit you in Italy in 25 years!

Think of your marriage just like making a beer. It begins with the malt process taking the grain and cracking it open, this happened when the two of you met, you learned what makes each other tick and how to crack open important information about each other. Then comes the mashing, this is the slow process where hot water activates enzymes in the grains that cause it to break down and release its sugars. Here you found out how to get into hot water with each other, you fought, and when it was all over there was an end that was sweet to the taste. Next is the boil, hops and spices can be added here. This reminds me of the barbecues you guys throw… there is never enough spices or hops to go around at those get togethers, especially on your world-famous wings! Then the beer ferments. This is my favorite part where the yeast has a chance to eat the sugar in the beer and make alcohol. Alcohol tastes really good, but only if it is made the right way. And I have to say that your relationship is perfect just like a good lager or ale. Lastly you bottle and age the beer. This is the last stage of marriage, aging together and learning from one another throughout each year. And I have to say that throughout your relationship and marriage you will grow and learn to love each other in new ways.

Cheers to your long and happy marriage! May be it filled with all the chocolate, and beer in the world!

The couple has taken the time to write their own vows that they both have agreed upon. These words express their binding promises to love, honor, and cherish one another. If you are ready to make these promises to each other I invite you now to face each other and declare your intentions.

Anthony when you're ready you may begin.

I am a better version of myself - because of you.

I promise to make you laugh - and to laugh with you.

I promise to take you seriously - when seriousness is called for.

I promise to raise you up - when you are sinking - and to guide you

- when you are drifting.

And although I can’t promise - to solve all your problems

– I can promise you won’t -have to face them alone.

I love you and I like you.

Michelle when you're ready you may begin.

I love you and I like you.

Exchange of rings

Thank you for sharing your vows with all of us. The rings you are about to place on each other's fingers are symbols of the love you expressed. They will remind you of the vows you have just spoken, and of the eternal love that you have for one another.

Rings are made of precious metal, but that same metal is also made precious by wearing them. Your wedding rings are special because they mark the beginning of your long journey together. It is the seal of the vows you have just taken to love each other without end.

Chris may I have the rings.

Anthony, please place the ring on Michelle's left hand.

By placing this ring on her finger, you do this as a sign of your love that you have chosen her above all else.

Michelle, please place the ring on Anthony’s left hand.

By placing this ring on his finger, you do this as a sign of your love that you have chosen him above all else.

Closing of marriage.

Well ladies and gentlemen we come to the part that everyone loves, it is the closing. I have to say, that when I was asked to be the one that married these two, I have never felt such an honor, thus far in life. And I am even married.

And for me to have that honor, I feel that I should finish this thing…
