PROCESSION

WELCOME

Friends and family welcome and thank you for being here on this important day. Johnny and Michelle invite you to leave behind the worries and concerns of every day life and join them in the celebration of their marriage, for this day – the day of Johnny and Michelle’s wedding – is about love. For love is genuine, honest and open, compassionate and kind, passionate and blind, love doesn’t know space or time, nor look through jealous eyes. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things.

Johnny and Michelle, today is the union of the two of you in heart, body, mind, and spirit. Therefore, marriage is not to be entered into lightly, but respectfully, honestly, and deliberately. And it is into this union that the two of you come now to be joined.

SPEAK ABOUT JOHNNY AND MICHELLE

When Johnny and Michelle asked if I would perform the ceremony, I was honored to be a part of their day. As Johnny’s uncle, I have known him since he was born. I remember my sister Terri and me looking at him through the glass of the maternity ward for the first time, or living with him and Tammy when he was young and all the times I shared with him. One moment I remember is having him record my answering machine message and, in his cute little three year old voice, saying his Uncle Tommy couldn’t come to the phone right now so leave your name and number. And now seeing him grow into a man who takes great pride in his children and family. A man I am proud to call my nephew.

I remember when Michelle came into our lives, being told about the girl Johnny was dating and finding out I had already known her for some time, not knowing that this new guy she was talking about was my nephew. Since then, I have come to see she is a kind, loving person who cares about everyone around her. Her love for Johnny and her children is apparent in everything she does. From day one, she just fit with Johnny, and his family.

Their relationship grew from like to love, and has brought two beautiful additions into not just their lives, but all of our lives; first with Kailyn and then Kassidy. These two little spunky girls have brought such joy and love to Johnny and Michelle, completing their family.

Johnny you are not perfect, and neither are you Michelle, and the two of you together will never be perfect. But if you can make each other laugh at least once, cause each other to think twice, and admit to being human and making mistakes, then hold onto one another and give each other the most you can give. Remember, he isn’t going to quote poetry, and she’s not thinking about you every moment, but you will each give the other a part of yourself that you know could be broken. So don’t hurt her, don’t change him, and don’t expect for more than the other can give. Don’t analyse. Smile when they make you happy, yell when they make you mad, and miss the other when they’re not there. Love hard when there is love to be had. Because perfect people don’t exist, but there’s always one person that is perfect for you.

NICOLE READING – THE ART OF MARRIAGE

And now a reading by Michelle’s sister Nicole that embodies the sentiments, the ideals, and the love to which any marriage aspires, “The Art of Marriage”.

Happiness in marriage is not something that just happens. A good marriage must be created. In the art of marriage the little things are the big things. It is never being too old to hold hands. It is remembering to say “I love you” at least once a day. It is never going to sleep angry. It is at no time taking the other for granted; the courtship should not end with the honeymoon, it should continue through all the years. It is having a mutual sense of values and common objectives. It is standing together facing the world. It is forming a circle of love that gathers in the whole family. It is doing things for each other, not in the attitude of duty or sacrifice, but in the spirit of joy. It is speaking words of appreciation and demonstrating gratitude in thoughtful ways. It is not looking for perfection in each other. It is cultivating flexibility, patience, understanding and a sense of humor.

It is having the capacity to forgive and forget. It is giving each other an atmosphere in which each can grow. It is finding room for the things of the spirit. It is a common search for the good and the beautiful. It is establishing a relationship in which the independence is equal, dependence is mutual and the obligation is reciprocal. It is not only marrying the right partner, it is being the right partner. It is discovering what marriage can be, at its best.

VOWS

Johnny and Michelle, today is the public affirmation and acknowledgement of all that you are to each other. Seemingly your relationship will be as it has always been; yet there is a power in the spoken word. May that power bring you all the warmth and closeness, security and comfort, joy and happiness that this world has to offer.

Now, please turn and face one another as you express your vows of love and devotion to each other.

Johnny, please repeat after me.

Johnny: Michelle, I take you to be my best friend (stop), my faithful partner, and my one true love (stop). I promise to encourage you and inspire you (stop) and to love you truly through good times and bad (stop). I will forever be there to laugh with you (stop), to lift you up when you are down (stop) and to love you unconditionally (stop) through all of our adventures in life together.

Michelle, please repeat after me.

EXCHANGE OF RINGS

A ring is an unbroken circle, a symbol of unity and love, representing the greater circle of life of which we all are a part of. Having neither a beginning nor end, but a continuous cycle of which each of you are an element. For you, it begins with the gift of life, and will continue through the end of time.

Johnny, please place the ring on Michelle’s finger and repeat after me – Michelle, I give you this ring that you may wear (stop), as a symbol of the vows we have made this day (stop). I pledge you my love, and respect (stop), my laughter and my tears (stop). With all that I am, I honor you.

PRONOUNCEMENT

Johnny and Michelle, We have heard your vows and your promise of faithful love. You have exchanged rings as a symbol of your love and commitment to each other. We recognize the bond you have made here this day before each one of us as witnesses. Therefore in the honesty and sincerity of what you have said and done here today and by the power bestowed upon me, it is my honor and delight to pronounce you husband and wife. Johnny, you may kiss your bride.
