So you’ve decided to get married in West Jordan! This gorgeous little suburb is right next to many great outdoor parks and resorts, and is also just a few miles south of Utah’s capital - Salt Lake City. Take a trip backcountry skiing or hiking in the Oquirrh Mountains, or spend a relaxing day on the banks of the Jordan River.
Whatever your plans as a couple, AMM is here to guide you through the process of getting legally married in West Jordan - from ordaining your chosen minister to completing the marriage license.
According to Utah Code Title 81, Chapter 2 (81-2-305), marriages may be solemnized by “an individual 18 years old or older who is authorized by a religious denomination to solemnize a marriage" or "a Native American spiritual advisor” may perform marriage ceremonies in the state of Utah.
If you do not yet fulfill this requirement, don’t worry. As long as you are at least 18 years old, AMM’s free online ordination makes it possible for you to become a minister of our church today by simply signing up.
The State of Utah does not require ministers to register with the local government, so once you are ordained with us, you can start officiating weddings!
Officiating a wedding ceremony is a privilege and an honor, but also comes with a lot of pressure. AMM’s training pages will help give you helpful tips and tricks for brainstorming, writing a personalized script and delivering a smooth speech.
When it comes to signing the marriage license, it is the couple’s responsibility to obtain it from the county clerk’s office, fill it out, and hand it over to you to sign as well. Just make sure that the license is valid before signing and giving it back to the couple to return. Otherwise, you have fulfilled your full legal duty as the officiant!
