STEVEN WALDNER , Retired Army Sergeant First Class, husband and proud father to three children served his country for over 23 years. He is active in local community non-profit organizations having served on the board of the local chapter of the VFW. He embraced his local community having participated in countless events over the years.
As a young high school graduate, Steven entered the Army in February 1989 and was assigned to 1-22 Infantry at Fort Drum NY as a rifleman. He worked his way up to Squad Leader while participating in numerous deployments to include Hurricane Andrew Relief, West Point Cadet training, Honduras, Panama, Reforger Germany, and Somalia for both Operation Restore and Operation Continue Hope.
In May 1994, SFC Waldner reenlisted for Panama where he was assigned to A Company Jungle Operations Training Battalion. He personally trained over 2500 soldiers through 15 battalion rotations in Jungle Operations culminating with squad and platoon live fires and battalion size force-on-force exercises each lasting four days.
In 1996, he was selected by the Department of the Army to serve as a recruiter assigned to Syracuse Recruiting Bn with duty at Ft. Drum recruiting company from 1996 to 1999.
In September 1999, SFC Waldner came full circle and returned to Fort Drum where he signed into 2/87 Infantry C Company. His distinctive methods of mentoring, leading, training, maintaining and caring for soldiers set the example for others to emulate. SFC Waldner’s dedication to duty, can-do attitude and extra efforts enabled the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry) enhanced combat effectiveness of this Division in the Global War on Terrorism. These accomplishments were alongside deployments to Sinai, Egypt, two to Afghanistan and finally a deployment to Iraq.
Steven Waldner embodies the very essence of what the one expects of a true professional. As a supervisor he is able to communicate well and utilizes his well-honed active listening skills. He possesses a unique gift for motivating people at work. He dedicated over 20 yrs of service to the 10th Mountain Division. Steven is a leader who cares for all and instills in them a sense of common purpose and a belief that together they can achieve something worthwhile. He has proven this quality in performing every task he has been asked to do. He exhibits unending empathy for his fellow man and displays uncompromising moral and ethical character, competence in every task, and a strong desire to proudly serve his Country.
Steven lives in New York and was ordained by American Marriage Ministries on June 12th, 2018.
